• Mezger Monday — This latest painting features one of my favorite cars from Stuttgart, the awesome 964 Carrera RS.

I spotted this particular car while I was hurrying across the Nürburgring parking lot a few years ago, & it stopped me in my tracks. What a shape. And in Signal Yellow, no less. It was a Clubsport version with the stripped-out interior, roll cage & racing bucket seats, & I stood there for a few long seconds before I continued on my way to the pits. But I made sure to make my way back there before day’s end to take some reference photos for a future painting.

I’ve been on a mission lately, trying to finish all the paintings I’ve started but had set aside for one reason or another. Sometimes you lose steam or enthusiasm for a particular piece for no reason. Other times you get distracted by something shiny, as a “better” idea pops into your head. And sometimes life gets in the way… a paying job that requires packing my bag & jumping onto an airplane, or whatever else might come up. Regardless, there’s no reason not to get back to it, & so that’s what I’ve been doing.

• World Champion Wednesday — While he’d go on to win a record 7 World Championships, it was at Benetton where Michael Schumacher first scored Grand Prix wins.

This recently completed painting is titled “Champion In Waiting,” & features the legendary German driver in the Ford-powered Benetton B193 which he raced during the 1993 F1 season — the car in which he’d capture his second career win before emerging as a World Championship contender the following year.

• Fast Friends Friday — About to set off on a hot lap during the BMW M Track Days at Sears Point Raceway with my friend Khalid, who I’d last seen at the Nürburgring Nordschleife, where we were rippin’ around the greatest racetrack in the world during lead-follow lapping. Nice surprise to see his smiling face & his super-positive attitude towards life.
