The car Audi chose to prove the advantages of AWD in road racing, was also one of the most dominant, single-season racing cars of all time. The 90 quattro GTO started the trend of Audi dominating a road racing series with their AWD system and then being outlawed, culminating in quattro being deemed “an unfair advantage” by the FIA and subsequently banned from international racing. This piece depicts Hans Stuck pulling the front wheels up into the air while cresting the brow at Lime Rock in 1989 on his way to victory.
