Senna-Rainman Painting

In the 1993 European Grand Prix at Donington Park, Ayrton Senna passed four cars on the first lap of the race to take the lead, and went on to record one of the largest margins of victory over second place. Driving the underpowered McLaren MP4/8 in mixed conditions that included torrential downpours intermixed with light rain, Senna lapped every car in the field except that of second place finisher Damon Hill, finishing 1 min, 29 seconds clear of Hill’s Williams FW15C. Depicting what is arguably the greatest opening lap in Formula One history and one of the best drives of all time, this latest painting has been on my mind for years, as I’ve always wanted to capture that epic drive visually, especially considering it’s difficult to find any good photos from that race due partially to the terrible weather of the day.
