In 1997 Adidas approached a number of Southern California-based car designers to help design a series of basketball shoes for its star athlete, Kobe Bryant. Being a huge Lakers fan, this was one of the most fun product design projects I’d ever worked on. Along with a few friends and fellow car designers from some of the area’s car design studios, we set off to produce many sketches and renderings, all of which were turned over to Adidas, where they went on to influence future Kobe signature basketball shoes. So in a way, we all helped contribute to some of those Lakers championships! Ah… yeah, right.
